Fresh wild Alaska king salmon today! A winter wonder purchased @tandcmarkets this week. I am recipe testing in anticipation of summer salmon runs and this beauty caught my eye in the seafood counter yesterday. They also had the rare white king but I went with this one! @alaskaseafood #alaskasalmon
Hey Seattleites! Local in season Dungeness Crabs, precooked and sold whole, are being featured on sale @qfcgrocery and @wincofoods this week. (About $7.99 per pound) This beauty is from Winco and most likely from Westport, Washington, a bustling seafood town out on the coast. I am putting a few in the freezer for seafood soups. This one is being steamed today. I might serve it with a simple ginger dipping sauce. #crab #dungenesscrab
Forced! Last October I decided to experiment with forcing spring bulbs. I love having them in the house and generally buy them around this time at the nurseries but I reasoned with inflation and heating costs they’d be pricey. This was a grand experiment indeed. Normally folks say to put bulbs in fridge to chill but I didn’t want to be bothered. With some flipping through my vintage garden books I decided to really force the situation by planting bulbs in a clear plastic storage bin drilled with holes and filled with soil. I watered well and put the lid on and left the box in the yard. The bulbs endured rain, snow and serious ice and on New Year’s Day I pulled a bulb to see if anything was brewing. To my sheer amazement the bulb had massive roots so I planted it in a pot and brought it inside to warm up and hopefully flower! Alas, my forced orb cooperated and I now have a beautiful FRAGRANT and thrifty spring garden on my kitchen table! I bought the bulbs in bulk from @costco and have more still snuggled in that box outside! Here in Seattle many of the nurseries now also have potted spring hyacinths and they are priced as high as $8 each, which is pretty close to what I paid for the whole bag! #spring #bulbs #springbulbs🌷 #hyacinths #growyourown #garden #indoorgarden
Sometimes you just get lucky. I have wanted a Boos Block for a very long time. These renowned cutting boards are treasured with cooks. That said I never invested but today I found this beauty at the thrift store for $8. A true treasure! #cookware #thrift #thriftingfinds #secondhand
Hey Seattleites, if you are a @pccmarkets member, check your email for the current member offer and be sure to activate the offer. This month’s feature is one pound of free citrus, any variety. I got these beauties today. #seattle #seattlefoodie #pccnaturalmarkets #seattlewashington
